Data Analyst resume keywords that get past the screening software.

Analyst roles are screened on tools first: SQL, a BI tool, and a spreadsheet or scripting language. The ad usually names them exactly, and your resume should too, wherever you’ve really used them.

Hard skills and tools

The terms recruiters most often filter data analyst applications by. Use the ones you can back up, written the way the ad writes them.

Before and after

Three rules for this role

  1. Name the BI tool. “Dashboards” alone won’t match a search for “Tableau”.
  2. Show the decision your analysis drove, not only the report you produced.
  3. If the ad says “SQL”, write “SQL” as well as the database name (MySQL, BigQuery).

Questions

What keywords should a data analyst resume include?

Start with the hard skills named in the job ad, then add certifications and tools you actually use. Common ones for data analyst roles include SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python, pandas.

Should I copy every keyword from the job ad?

No. Only add a keyword when your experience supports it. Recruiters read the resume after the software ranks it, and a claim you can’t back up costs you the interview.

How do I know which keywords I’m missing?

Paste the job ad and your resume into SubMac’s free checker. It shows your match score and lists the keywords from the ad that your resume doesn’t contain.
